Duplicate Web Site Contents Penalty Issue

The "SEO/Search Engine related - Duplicate contents penalty" issue is one of the biggest issues that we are dealing everyday with SEO task and update the websites. The issue is that search engines such as Google, Yahoo etc., will penalise or banned a site if much of its content is also on other websites.

There is a real duplicate contents penalty for content that is duplicated with minor or no variation across the pages of a single site. There is also a "mirror" penalty for a site that is more or less substantially duplicating another single site. What we're talking about here is the reprint of pages of content individually. The punishment can mean making it less likely that the site will appear in search results. Punishment can also mean removal from the search engine's index of web pages.

Google penalizes page rank when it determines that content is duplicated by other sites.

How to Check the "Duplicate Content" and avoid the "duplicate content penalty"?

You could check for duplicated content - http://www.copyscape.com

Just enter the URL of the page you want to check, Copyscape will return a list of pages in the Google index that contain text also present on your site, or for more detail you can subscribe to their Copysentry service. We are not sure how much duplication can result in a penalty, if it's 20 words, 30, a whole page. You will need to make a decision on whether you believe you have a problem or not. A lot of time your marketing web page text will appear as a description for a link to your site - this probably won't be counted as duplicate content.
